To: Parents/Guardians of Grade 7 & 8 Students
The Waterloo Region District School Board plans to offer Grade 7 & 8 students an opportunity to enroll in summer school programs.
Grade 7 students may only register in the High School Preparatory Program. Grade 8 students may register for either of the following programs that best supports their learning needs and background knowledge.
The High School Preparatory Program is intended for students who need support in the areas of literacy or numeracy. You will be asked to indicate which area of focus to be supported.
Grade 7 & 8 High School Preparatory Program, Location, and Schedules
This program is for students who have achieved a level one or two on their most recent report card. These students would benefit from an interactive half-day learning experience with their peers. Students will choose either a literacy or numeracy focused class.

The Reach Ahead Program is available to students who will be attending High School next September and have selected primarily applied type courses in September 2017. These programs aim to improve student achievement by assisting students to consolidate knowledge and skills in their chosen area of focus.
Reach Ahead Program, Locations, and Schedules:
This program is for students entering into grade 9 in September 2017, who have opted for applied courses and want to learn strategies needed to succeed in high school. This program is a full-day credit granting opportunity.

Attendance
Daily attendance is an essential requirement in all summer school courses.
Transportation
A bus schedule will be posted on the
Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region website (www.stswr.ca)
and will be included in a Summer School Information package to be sent home in June.
High School Preparatory and ESL Language support students must use the elementary bus schedule.
The Reach Ahead students must use the secondary bus schedule.
This limited bus schedule typically picks up and drops off at the student’s home school.
Registration Packages
Signed registration forms are due back to school no later than Friday, May 19, 2017.

Student Tour of PHS is the morning of November 23rd – teachers of grade 8’s will accompany the students – more information in next few weeks
- Students who are considering another secondary school for magnet program or alternative program will still attend the PHS tour.
- If your student will definitely be attending a different secondary school (e.g. if moving or attending Catholic school), please let us know.
- Please register on School Day so that your student is able to attend the tour. There is NO cost for bussing.
