There are many opportunities for students to be recognized at William G. Davis. Some of these occur throughout the year, and others happen in June. The information below was presented to students at a recent assembly, and is shared here for information.
Grade 7 and 8 Awards
Razorback of the Month – Ten students recognized each year per class, celebrating ten character traits – certificate and picture in big frame
Razorback Recognition – “Get caught doing something good!” – receive a wrist band at our monthly assembly
Honour Roll – Achieve an average of 80% on Term One or Term Two Report Card; receive a certificate and pen
E-Society – Achieve straight Es on Learning Skills on the Report Card; special gift (last year was a shirt First Term!) and get invited to a special recognition event
Koetsch-Stahlschmidt Award – for the highest average in each class
Principal’s Award – plaque given to one grade 7 and one grade 8 student; chosen by Mr. Ward (positive, involved, kind, try your best etc.)
Grade 8 Graduation Awards
Yates Award – Voted by all staff; Criteria – Honor Roll, must make at least one MAJOR and other MINOR contributions to school life, courteous, volunteer, respectful, hard-worker; Candidates – a small group who make it to the final round of voting (10-15 students) – receive plaque. Winners – one male and one female receive trophy
Most Improved Student – Given to a student who has shown great overall improvement in their time at Davis
Music Awards – Given for interest, ability, motivation, and leadership in extra-curricular music; must show a positive effort and a desire to excel
Athletes of the Year – male and female who are involved in many extra-curricular athletic activities, while maintaining good academic standing
Coaches’ Awards – male and female who contribute enthusiastically to athletics, hardworking, positive, strong effort, “coachable”
Art Award – Make valuable contribution and excellence in the area of Visual Arts
Science and Technology Award – Presented to a student who has skill and aptitude in the area of Science and Technology; shows creativity and leadership in S & T
Writer’s Award – For outstanding creative writing ability; must be nominated by a teacher and submit pieces completed during the year to a panel of independent judges
Math Award – Given to a group of students who demonstrate strong passion and excellence in mathematics
