February 2016.
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Graduation at William G. Davis is a celebration to honour the achievement of the grade 8 students
of our school. It is also a chance for the staff to extend best wishes to the graduates as they
leave Davis to enter secondary school.
Our goal is to conduct a graduation ceremony that will be comfortable and memorable for our
students. Graduation is not intended to put undue financial strain or social pressure on graduates
or their families, particularly as it relates to dress for this evening. We would like our
celebration to focus on things that draw us together rather than emphasizing things that make us
different.
We, the staff and the parents of the School Council, feel that these guidelines may help parents
and students in discussing this occasion and in making good choices regarding appropriate attire.
It is not necessary to make extravagant expenditures for clothing that may have very limited wear.
The following choices are deemed suitable:
• Clean, neat, proper clothing;
• “Good” or special occasion clothes which you already possess;
• New clothing which you purchase and will wear in the future on other occasions. The following
are deemed inappropriate choices for thirteen – fifteen year old students:
• Renting tuxedos or formal wear;
• One-time use dresses, formal gowns, suits (if bought specifically for graduation);
• Arrival and departure from graduation in rented limousines;
• Track suits, shorts, muscle shirts, beachwear, t-shirts, baseball hats.
Feel free, parents and/or students, to discuss these suggestions with any staff member.
Graduation will be held on Tuesday, June 28th at William G. Davis School from 6:30 pm to
10:30 pm.
Admittance to graduation is by ticket only and two (2) tickets will be issued to each family.
Graduates do not require a ticket themselves. Admission is free for guests but we will ask for a
small amount from each graduating student to help cover the cost of refreshments and the dance.
This money will be collected in May. Due to the importance and formality of the ceremony it is
recommended that babies and children under the age of 8 should not attend graduation.
Additional information pertaining to the graduation will be available later in the term.
