January 12, 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This information is provided so that you are aware of an event that transpired on January 12, 2016 at William G Davis Public School.

At approximately 10:00 am, a verbal threat was called into the school office. Police were immediately notified, the school was evacuated and we temporarily relocated all staff and students to The Fairview Mennonite Home across the street from us on Langs Drive.

I want to recognize, first of all, how well our students responded to our evacuation procedure. They were calm, quiet and cooperative as we made our way to Fairview Mennonite Home. Secondly, I want to commend our staff on how calmly and efficiently they directed our students and how well they supported our kids during the evacuation. Thirdly, the response from WRPS was outstanding and we had 7 units at the school within a few minutes of our call to assist us with this situation.  Fairview Mennonite Home was outstanding in their response as they made room for our entire school and they assisted us in ensuring our students were well looked after. Lastly, I want to thank our parents for their understanding and trust as we worked through this somewhat stressful event with local police and board administration.

We are sensitive to the fact that this event could be troubling and that you and your child may have concerns. We welcome your communication and the opportunity to provide you with further information as it becomes available, or to respond to your questions and concerns. Further, if your child exhibits worries or anxiety regarding this event and is in need of further support, the school will welcome the opportunity to make this available.

Once again, thank you for your understanding and support. It is during times like this that we affirm what an amazing community William G. Davis is. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at school

Sincerely,

Brian Ward

Principal
