October 15th, 2014
On Monday, October 27th members of the En-Kata choir from Tanzania, Africa, are coming to share songs and stories from the heart of their continent. The tour is travelling across Canada and the U.S.
We are fortunate to have them coming to William G. Davis Public School. The musical presentation will feature songs written by the Maasai and performed in both their native language of Maa and the official language of Swahili. The En-Kata choir has two CDs of the choir’s performances, a DVD of music videos, and a stunning picture book showcasing one community of the Maasai tribe. These items as well as handmade crafts such as key chains and necklaces will be available for sale at the event. The main goal of the ‘Hope of the Maasai’ is to raise money to continue with the construction of the first Maasai-led elementary school in Orbili, Tanzania.
The ‘Hope of the Maasai’ presentation will offer a look at the fascinating culture of the Maasai tribe in Tanzania and a chance to become part of the story of hope by helping their school expand. We are asking students to bring in a donation to support the school. Students are encouraged to earn the money they donate by helping their parents with extra chores around the house over the next few weeks. We hope to raise enough funds to send a Maasai to Teacher’s College in Tanzania, which is about $1000 for the year and will ensure the Maasai children receive a quality education.
Thank you for your support of this wonderful opportunity for cultural learning!
